The Discovery hub / Investigation hub

Playing, exploring and active learning

A group of children made some play-dough and following their interest in our story of the week we all used our imagination to create ‘Gruffalo Crumble”. We added small spoons, scoops, wooden spoons and small bun cases. The children were really engaged in this activity and spoke to each other about what they were doing, making tea for the mouse or leaving food out for the snake. Throughout the activity, the children discussed what each characters favourite food was in the story. This activity allowed the children to develop their hand-eye coordination as well as good play skills and excellent communication as they played and shared the tools and resources.

Story of the week

Following on from our story of the week, ‘The Gruffalo’, the children have engaged in lots of activities based on this story. We have had pictures of the Gruffalo, the snake, the owl and the mouse for the children to colour in or to try to trace around the outline. All the children enjoyed this art work over the week.

Outdoor Play

As we have came to the end of another School Year, we have enjoyed lots of new experiences and activities both indoors and outdoors. Some of our children who attend during the holidays and are leaving us in September have spent some time transitioning down from the Discovery hub into the Investigation hub outdoor area, where they have accessed the garden, climbing equipment and our large sand pit. They have enjoyed learning lots of new ways to complete the larger obstacle course.

Physical Development

Both the children from Discovery hub /Investigation hub have spent a lot of time together and have enjoyed lots of new experiences such as playing on the larger bikes which is really good for all the children’s physical development as they are learning to use all their core strength to peddle the bikes or push each other around the play area. In the sand pit, the children have shown lots of imagination as they have created some lovely structures and castles which has helped develop their play skills, taking turns, waiting patiently for equipment and working together as a small team.

Staffing Update:

• We would like to welcome Lucy to the team who will be joining the Discovery Hub.
• Holly will also be working as a key person in the Discovery Hub from September.
• Lauren is on Annual Leave next week

Parent partnerships

Thank you again to the parents who have brought us lots of clean empty boxes and containers for our junk model area, the children all become very engaged while creating lots of beautiful models and structures to either take home or to use in their play like robots, spiders and houses, the children all show their creative side and it shows how much their imaginative play has progressed over this past term.

Just a reminder that nursery is closed on Monday 31st August & Tuesday 1st September for Teacher Training Day. Nursery will reopen on Wednesday 2nd September for all children.

We would also like to wish all our lovely children who are leaving us this week to continue their Journey through to School in September all the very best of luck and we will miss them all. All the children who are leaving the Discovery Hub to move into the investigation hub, we also wish them well as they all transition and they continue to learn and thrive during this new chapter in their development.

As a staff team, we would all like to wish the lovely Lauren and her fiancé Jack the very best of luck on their Wedding day next week. Lauren will be on annual leave for the next three weeks, enjoying her honeymoon.
