The Nest/The Den –

As we conclude the final week of the summer holidays, we have introduced a range of summer themed activities in The Nest and the Den this week!

Physical Development:

A fantastic water play and citrus tray was set up for the children to experiment with lots of splashing which was enjoyed by all! With the children incredibly focused on their large movements and the effects this had on the water. The children placed their hands into the water and created large splashing motions which they found fascinating.

We added some shells to our large scale playdough on the floor this week, as we trialled making marks using the shells in the playdough. High levels of interest and fascination were shown as the children experimented with adding and removing the shells from the playdough – noticing the imprints and patterns that were left in the dough.

The children displayed high levels of engagement with the undersea water tray. They actively used their hands to create significant splashing, resulting in water being directed towards each other. The children showed amusement during these actions – laughing as they splashed! They demonstrated their fine motor skills by reaching and grasping for different objects within the tray using whole hand grasps.

Communication and Language:

The children were incredibly engaged when we brought out a “beach” messy play tray for them to explore! This provided materials such as spaghetti, foam and sand, for the children to explore and feel within their hands. Lots of excited noises such as “Oooh” and “wow” were communicated from the children as well as some naming of the “octopus” and the “turtle.”

Staffing Update:

We would like to welcome Chloe to the team who will be joining the Den.

We would like to welcome Rachel to the team who will be joining the Nest, you may have seen her in the room during the summer holidays.

A big Congratulation to Laney for passing her Level 2 Apprenticeship and she will now be undertaking her Level 3 Childcare Qualification with us, beginning in September.

Parents as partners:

Just a reminder, nursery will be closed on Monday the 31st of August for Bank Holiday & Tuesday the 1st of September for a Staff Training Day. We reopen on Wednesday the 2nd of September.

From next week the den children will be dropped off in the den with Anna, Laney and Chloe to greet you at the door.

We want to say it has been a pleasure to see the children grow in confidence in the Nest as now they are transitioning to the Den. We will miss them, but it’s their time to grow and we know they will continue to be amazing!
