The Nest
Characteristics of Effective Learning
We provided a box with holes in and the children eagerly pushed the pom poms through the hole further developing their fine motor skills. They were so engaged throughout this activity, as they were fully focussed in they were doing. The children showed some lovely interactions towards the adult and other children by sharing the pom poms.
Communication and Language
The children have really enjoyed exploring our car themed small world area. They have been learning new words such as “car, beep beep, digger, nee nar nee nar, choo choo”. The children were fascinated by the magnetic road as they were continuously taking it apart and putting it back together.
Physical Development
The children demonstrated good hand control, as they moved the cars back and forth in the rice creating some lovely track marks. They children were feeling the rice between their fingers letting it drop back into the tray. They spent some time exploring the cars moving them in different directions. There was some lovely interactions observed between the children with lots of smiling and babble sounds. Some of the children were sat in the tray moving the rice with their bare feet feeling the texture, as they enjoyed the sensation of the rice touching their feet.
