The Den:

We have continued the children’s interest in sand this week, this time, using brushes to explore mark making opportunities.

We placed sand in a shallow tray and added a variety of mark making tools to (brushes, sponges) to the tray. We modelled using the brushes to make marks, which the children quickly copied. The children enjoyed watching how sand moved around with the brushes and seeing the marks left behind. We also encouraged the children to use their fingers to create lines in the sand. We heard some lovely language as the children explored such as “sprinkle, dab, brush”.

The garden continues to be a key part of our curriculum, as we spend more time outside with the weather warming. The children have explored mark making opportunities using chalks as they draw on different materials like the large tray and trees. We have also been exploring vehicles outside, using large ramps for the children to extend their interest in cars. They enjoyed rolling cars and balls down the ramp then retrieving them from the ground.
