The Discovery and Investigation Hub.
As the first week of the Summer holidays ends, we would like to say how well the children who attends the school holidays have adjusted and responded in playing and sharing experiences together, whilst the Discovery and Investigation hub has been joined together during certain periods of the day.
This has supported the children transitioning down into the Investigation Hub in September to become familiar with staff within the room and also have the opportunity to explore the outside environment. Where the children have showed enjoyment playing in the large sand pit, using the bikes and pretending the troll from the story ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ lived under the climbing tower and acted out part of the story. “Trip, trap, trip, trap”, “who’s that coming over my bridge?”
The children have fantastic imaginative skills and are really good at retelling stories of interest. 🐐
During the week we have also welcomed children from The Den on visits, as they transition and become familiar with the new routine and staff. The children are settling in really well, having the opportunity to explore the environment and activities on offer.
Play and exploring:
This week the children has been creating animals masks and using them during their play and expressing themselves through the sounds and movements.
Animals and mini beast is still a keen interest for the children. Where the children show enjoyment in building play using the small world animals and developing their imaginative skills. During the week, the children have been washing the small world farm animals, showing good listening skills and recognising different animal sounds via audio and matching the sound to the correct image.
We have been looking at and talking about the different habitats animals live and even found some mini beast in our outdoor environment, which has included; spiders, wood louse, bees and much more.
Outdoor play:
The children in the Investigation Hub were keen gardener’s on Thursday, as the potato’s and tomato’s in the Nursery allotment was ready to be harvest. 🥔 🍅
This was a great opportunity to discuss with the children about how things grow that we can eat, looking closely at the plants/ vegetables in the allotment, discussing what can grow in the ground and on trees/ plants.
Our Nursery cook, prepared the potato’s on Friday for the children to taste the food they had harvested, during snack time, along with the tomato’s.
The children have been developing their gross motor skills whilst in the garden, through using the beams, bikes and different movements to manuavure around the space, a favourite for the Discovery hub children has been to play ‘hide and seek’.
With the weather being lovely, the children have enjoyed having snack outside in shaded areas of the garden.

Parent partnership:
Thank you for your continued support during this Summer period, please could we remind parents to apply sun cream on your child before attending nursery for their session. We would advise it even when the weather seems cloudy, as the UV index is still high.
If you forget to apply it before attending, you can use Nursery suncream on arrival when dropping off your child/ren.
Please can we remind parents to discourage your child to bring toys from home into nursery, unless it a comforter for sleep time.
Thank you and we hope you have a lovely weekend.
