W/c 25th May 2026 Discovery Hub and Investigation Hub
It has been a busy week within the nursery and due to it being the half term holidays, the children within the Discovery and Investigation hub has been joined together at certain times throughout the day and have enjoyed playing and sharing experiences together. Which has been great to see the interactions between all the children across the ages.
The children have been working together to build structures and enclosures based on first hand experiences, eg; farms, zoos, train tracks with the wooden blocks, incorporating small world toys such as the animals and transport.
During the week, we have been exploring animal movements and sounds through our core book ‘Doing the animal bop’. Where the children have enjoyed linking together what each animal does and creating their own movements.
The children have been creating and decorating animal pictures, which some children have transformed into puppets by cutting them out independently and securely attaching a stick using tape. The puppet shows have been full of imagination and acting, as the children express themselves and take on a role.
Along with showing curiosity and interest in creating their own sounds using musical instruments to shake, tap, bang and rattle. We had alot of musical talent within the room!
Some children in the Investigation Hub has been introduced to a new game called ‘Boom, Clap, Snatch!’ Which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
The children listened to the instructions carefully and carried out the correct corresponding action;
‘Boom‘ place your hands on head
‘Clap‘ clap your hands and
‘Snatch ‘ its a race to grab the cup infront of them.
Children also enjoyed creating banana milkshakes to have at snacktime🍌 .Where everyone showed great skill with their fine motor skills and control of the utensils to peel, chop and mash the banana before it got mixed with milk/ oat milk and yoghurt to create the delicious milkshakes.
Outdoor experiences:
During the week the children have been enjoying the outdoor environment, whilst staying safe in the sun. Developing their gross motor skills whilst using balance beams, completing an obstacle course and climbing towers.
The children have enjoyed exploring the large sand pit. Where they built sand castles, dug holes, covered feet and much more fun!
