The Investigation Hub at Sidney Grove

Week beginning Monday 20th April 2026

This week we welcomed our new group of Rising Three children into the Investigation Hub. It has been lovely to get to know our new friends and family members too! Thank you to family members for your help with settling the children in and telling us all of the important things we need to know about your child! Our older children have loved helping to look after our new friends and to help them to feel settled in their sessions. We have also welcomed new children into Ellie and Susan’s groups and we are so happy to have you all in our super team!

This week… we helped to settle all children in after the change in routine over the previous two weeks! This meant staff focussed highly on personal, social and emotional development and reminded children of our key routines and safety rules which are;

We walk in the Nursery,

We share,

We tidy,

We stop, look and listen when we hear the tambourine!

We shared our core text for Summer 1, which was Jack and the Beanstalk. This was explored through a variety of multi-sensory activities. The children retold the story in the garden, climbing our rope for the beanstalk and running away from the giant to hide under the climbing frame. Some of the children planted their own beans and we are waiting excitedly to see what happens next. We talked about what the beans might need to grow and where might be a good place to leave them in the meantime. We did some mark-making of the story onto large paper and focussed on making key shapes such as swirls for clouds, circles for coins and ovals for beans.

We also played a ‘magic beans’ number game, encouraging the children to recognise numerals quickly and to match them accurately.

Staff Training: On Monday we attended training with Julie Mancini about wellbeing and engagement. Following on from this training we will be considering the levels of well-being and engagement we observe each day and using this knowledge of the children to further support their development.

Many thanks and have a lovely weekend!
