The Den/The Nest

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children have had a busy week in exploring a range of activities that have encouraged their fine motor skills and promoting their hand washing skills.

Communication and Language

The children have showed some lovely interactions with each other, showing their enjoyment and engagement.

The children have enjoyed exploring the sensory room looking at the bubble tube, as they were fascinated with the colours changing. The children demonstrated good turn taking, as they explored the sensory board.

The children have been developing their language, as they have enjoyed exploring the train and tracks. The children said “choo choo” as they move the trains around the track. When the track fell apart, the children would say “More” or “help” for the train track to be put back together. It was lovely to see the enjoyment in the children’s faces, as the tracks were put back together.

Physical Development

The children have explored the rice using wooden resources to empty and fill. The children showed good control in holding the spoon, as they scooped the rice and placed it into the bowl. The children spent a considerable amount of time exploring the rice, as they were fully engaged in what they were doing.

We have been encouraging our older children to wash their hands before meal times. The children have done very well in understanding the process of what they needed to do to wash their hands. I pumped the soap onto the children’s hands and they started rubbing them together. The children children grabbed a paper towel to dry their hands and placed it into the bin, with directions and encouragement from myself.

Parent Partnership

Some of our older children have been doing their transition visits into the Discovery Hub. They have done really well in adjusting to their new environment and building bonds with their new key worker.
