The Nest
Characteristics of Effective Learning
We have truly enjoyed learning about jungle animals and their sounds this week. The children have participated in a range of engaging activities that have further supported their interest in jungle animals.
Communication and Language
The children have enjoyed exploring the jungle animal small world area. They have been making the animals stomp whilst grasping them with their whole hand. The children recognised some of the animal sounds by saying Raaahhh” and “Ahh ahh” for lion and monkey. The children spent a considerable amount of time exploring the jungle animals, as they were fully focussed and engaged in what they were doing. There was some lovely interactions observed between the children with lots of sharing, smiling and laughter.
During small group time, the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring a variety of animal puppets. Their intense focus and engagement were evident as they observed the puppets and their sounds. The children were vocalising the different animal sounds.
Physical Development
Following on from our jungle theme this week, the children have explored paint with the animals. The children experimented with the paint with their hands, moving it around the paper. They were captivated by this, looking intently at their hands. The children grasped the animals using their whole hand grasp and showed good control in creating some marks. They saw the marks they had created, and were so happy with themselves. The children spent a considerable amount of time exploring the paint, as they were so engaged in what they were doing.
