The Den/ Nest:

Following the children’s ongoing interest in sand, this week we used a range of brushes to mark make with sand. The children used varying sized brushes to move the sand around in the tray. We then placed a large mirror under the tray so when the sand was moved, they could see their reflection. The children loved this and spoke “hiya” when they revealed their reflection.

We have been exploring paint in sensory bags this week, focusing on fine motor movement. The children used their fingers to poke the bags and manipulate the paint around. They also used their hands to push and move the paint.

Characteristics of effective learning

We witnessed some fantastic imaginative play from some of the older children this week too! One of the children spotted a large cardboard box and spoke “rocket ship”. This prompted us to sing “zoom zoom we’re going to the moon”. The children took it in turns to sit inside the box and when we spoke “blast off!” they stood up and smiled.
