The Den:
Our final week before the end of the academic year! Just to say it has been such a pleasure working alongside your children this year- the individual progress each child has made this term is amazing and we are so proud of each and every child. Watching the children grow, develop and flourish has been heartwarming ❤️
Don’t forget to share anything you get up to throughout the 6 weeks with us via parent observation!
Characteristics of affective learning:
This week, we have been exploring coloured rice as our main activity. The children really enjoyed the sensory experience of the rice and used a range of wooden and metal utensils to scoop and pour the rice. When the rice was poured on the metal bowl, it sounded like rain, so we sang ‘incy-wincy spider to the children. This was a great opportunity to add new words to the children’s vocabulary like “pitter patter, scoop” and “pour”. This was a great way to support children with a filling and emptying schema.
Physical development:
Our lovely apprentice Laney planned and carried out a mark making activity with leaves and sticks collected in the garden. The children were very keen to come over and have an explore! They got super messy as they explored coloured paints with the collected materials as utensils and their hands. The children absolutely loved this activity!
We have been exploring physical opportunities this week using the balance beam, spinning top, sensory tiles and tunnel! The children demonstrated great physical movement as they navigated the new equipment. It was lovely to see the children’s confidence develop as they repeated walking along the balance beam independently.
Communication and language:
We have been looking at the animal boat this week. The children sat very engaged and took it in turns to pick an animal out of the boat. They spoke “knock knock” and knocked on the door. The children were able identify some of the animals chosen like crocodile, lion and monkey.
Parents as partners:
Don’t forget to share exciting things you get up to throughout the 6 weeks via parent observation- we love seeing what the children get up too!
