2-3 The Discovery Hub

3-5 Investigation Hub

This week the children have enjoyed exploring our interest of bugs! 🐛🐞🕷️

At the start of the week the children discovered a basket in the story shed which was filled with gardening gloves, magnifying glasses and a bug hunt list. Along side the basket, the children also discovered some story books about bugs where they identified a range of creepy crawlies! In addition, for our older children they all investigated using a clip board and some paper so they were able to draw out the bugs they found.

Characteristics of effective learning – Playing and Exploring

We have continued on with our theme of mini beats, play dough and clay as it is currently such a large interest across both age groups.

This week the children have explored clay and play dough as we continue to help support their fine motor skills , which they do by using their hands, and other tools. During play, some children were able to talk about the clay and play dough and what they have made (This week it all seems to be food related!)

“I’ve made a pie”

“Lots of cakes ”

The children also have had a lovely opportunity again to explore the mini beasts and creepy crawlies as well as supporting their fine motor skills as they scooped and picked the bugs out of rice using tweezers and small scoops.

Outdoor learning

Our mini beast hunt took place in top garden this week in range of areas as the children explored the bushes, the floor, the planter and a set up tuff tray filled with soil.

Following on from this, both age groups have enjoyed using our balls in the garden as they rolling them down different size and shaped tubes. While doing so, some children were able to help identify the balls by what colour they were. They did this by following simple instructions such as “If your ball is red can you roll it down the tube” or “who can go and find all the green balls”. We all worked together on this task for the children who were unsure on their colours as the older children helped them find the right ones.

Next week:

Parents as Partners

What a lovely first week of the summer holidays! The children have been super excited during group times to discuss what they are going to get up to in the holidays whether this be going to the beach, staying at grandparents or going on a sunny holiday.

Please can you send us some pictures of what you are all getting up to so your child can discuss this with their friends during group times!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week☺️
