Investigation Hub and Discovery Hub at Deckham
We have been feeling very festive in nursery this week!
The children have been continuing to make their Christmas baubles. They have also been making Christmas cards. The children have been choosing what materials they would like to add to their card. They can’t wait to share their creations with you next week!
On Thursday we also had Christmas jumper day and it was a lovely experience for the children to look at and talk about each other’s special clothes.
Following on from making their Christmas bauble, many children have planned this week to decorate other wooden shapes. They have made choices by selecting which shape they want to decorate, the materials they will use, for example, glitter, sequins, tinsel and paint, and they have used one-handed tools such as glue spreaders, paintbrushes and paint sticks.
There were puddles in our outdoor area this week after the rain. After putting on wellies, many of the children chose to jump into the puddles. Some children jumped with both feet together, others tried to leap across the puddles and after noticing one child creating a bigger splash by jumping from a log, others decided to follow this idea. This play enabled them to test their physical capabilities in an active and fun way. Being able to explore the outdoor area in different weather and seasons provides opportunities for children to learn more about the world around them and changes to the environment.
This week the Investigation Hub children have been looking at numerals (written numbers) 1-5. When counting reindeer in our song, ‘5 Little Reindeer Standing in a Row’, we looked at which numeral matched with the number of reindeer. The children also represented numbers by holding up the corresponding number of fingers.
Stories of the week: Reindeer’s First Flight / 10 Little Elves
Songs of the week: We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Sign of the week: Reindeer
Parents as partners:
We have enjoyed reading the recent observations that parents have added to Famly about their child’s learning and experiences outside of nursery. It is wonderful for us to hear about what your child has achieved and enjoyed with you at home. Thank you for sharing these lovely observations with us. If you would like to add an observation for your child, we have included photos of how to upload an observation to their journey. If you need any help with this, we would be happy to help.
