The Investigation Hub at Sidney Grove
Week commencing 14th July
Characteristics of Effective Learning
We were kindly donated some beautiful fabric from a parent. We asked the children in planning time how we could use the fabric. Some of the children decided to make clothes for dolls. Using a template they planned their designs, then used the fabric to create the outfit! Wow! They were amazing! The children’s creativity always astounds us. They added shorts, t shirts, dresses, goggles, armbands, life jackets and capes!
Parents as Partners
We have worked on focus tasks based around emotions and starting school this week. On Tuesday we released our butterflies into forest school as it was a very rainy afternoon. The children said goodbye to each one, counting down from five to zero as we released them. We had lots of discussion about where the butterflies might fly away to and drew pictures to show their destinations! In group times we have shared stories about starting school (such as Harry and the Dinosaurs Go to School) and stories about worries. This was then linked to a creative task in which the school leavers made their own worry monsters to take home with them. The children shared their own worries as they worked. Lots of the children discussed their excitement about starting school and that they felt happy following their school visits. A few children acknowledged feelings of nervousness and we explained that this is normal and that they can always share their worries with a trusted adult. We had a special farewell snack time with biscuits and juice!
Outside Learning
Following the children’s interest in sticks this week we have been creating stick people and stick crafts. We provided a variety of materials to use and the children created their own characters:
“It’s an alien superhero…it flies!”
“It’s a T Rex stick”
”a superhero alien with many eyes to see everyone! It’s so fast!”
”it’s a rainbow stick to turn things into rainbows!”
We are so grateful for all of the generous gifts and cards with kind words. It has been a privilege to see the children grow and thrive this year and to see how ready they are for their next chapter! We will miss them all ❤️ We look forward to seeing our returning children in September!
If your child attends holiday sessions please message Hilary and Kelly with any queries.
Wishing you a lovely summer! The Investigation Hub team
