The Investigation Hub at Sidney Grove
It’s been a lovely festive week with Christmas lunch and jumpers on Wednesday and lots of singing and arts and crafts across the week.
Parents as Partners
Our core text has been Stick Man which we explored using story spoons, drawing parts of the story and creating real Stick men in the garden using natural materials. The children practised rolling a dice in their maths focus time and counted out pom-poms to match the totals shown. We have also been doing some ‘top secret’ writing and drawing which you might find out more about next week! We have done lots of singing practice of our Christmas songs with Makaton signs. The children also tried some simple printing using playdough cutters and paint! Some children made patterns using different colours and shapes as they worked. For fine motor practice we threaded baubles onto pipe cleaners which required lots of concentration and hand eye coordination! We made a beautiful Christmas branch with all of the baubles!
Outdoors Learning
This week the children have been particularly engaged in using warm water as part of their play. Many enjoyed experimenting with washing away chalk outdoors, noticing how the colours changed and disappeared as they brushed water across the surfaces. Some children extended this interest by washing their bikes, while others used large paint rollers to make sweeping marks up and down the chalk board.
We also witnessed some wonderful shared imaginative play. A group of children created their own Father Christmas scene, complete with reindeer, elves and a sleigh built from crates. They took turns pretending to sleep while presents were “delivered,” working together beautifully to bring their story to life.

Children from the Investigation Hub will enjoy this fun, Christmas themed performance for 45 minutes, supported by staff within the Nursery session.
Christmas Party – Tuesday 16th December 9-12am
Christmas Singalong – Wednesday 17th December 11am or 2.30pm
Movie Day-Friday 19th December – feel free to attend in regular clothes, Christmas jumpers or PJs!
