Belonging “I belong at Bensham Grove Nursery”
Parents as Partners
This week we explored the theme of ‘belonging’ through a variety of stories, singing, painting, practising yoga together and thinking about the things which make our Nursery so special and unique. The concept of belonging is quite complex so we found ways to explain the meaning, such as; ‘belonging is like having all of the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, when one piece is missing it isn’t quite the same’ and ‘belonging is feeling welcome, included and loved’
It was amazing to welcome Laura Henry-Allain MBE to Nursery on Monday and the children were captivated by her story telling magic! Some of the children have commented that when they grow up, they want to write their own stories too, just like Laura! In our group times we encouraged the children to work collaboratively- using the parachute, painting together and listening to each other’s favourite songs which has been so popular this week! Thank you for all the messages… we have discovered some new and interesting music! We have explored the meaning of the word ‘belong’ and some children are already able to think of ways in which they belong; to their families, to clubs, to Nursery, to friendship groups and some of the children who are leaving to start school in September are thinking about soon belonging to a new community!
Outdoors Learning
In their plan do review sessions the children enjoyed playing hide and seek and developed this further by hiding toys for each other to find. Lots of positional language opportunities were explored as toys were hidden inside tyres, behind the shed and under the climbing frame. Some children have been observing the changes in the allotment, one commented “the allotment are going to turn into food like my Grandad’s allotment!” Lots of children accessed painting opportunities outside this week and some chose to paint sticks, calling them rainbow sticks!
Just a reminder that next week on Friday the 26th of June Nursery will be closed for staff training.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!
