2-3: The Discovery Hub
As the children continue to become more secure within the nursery environment we are beginning to introduce new outdoor areas and transitions to the daily routine. This week we have seen the children developing their relationships with peers and staff within their explorations. It has been lovely to hear the children using names within their play.
Play and exploring
This week, we have been supporting the children to explore the creative areas. Staff have joined alongside the children to model using the resources such as using a rolling pin to roll out the playdough and using the glue spreaders before sticking materials. It is lovely to see the children using new resources within the playdough area, painting and creative table. They have been working together as they explore creating marks in the paint and making collaborative pictures with creative materials.
Outdoor learning
We have been introducing the Blossom Garden and Bottom Garden to the children this week. The children enjoy exploring within our outdoor environments and they have been very curious to explore their new environments. In the Bottom Garden, the children have been very excited to see and hear the trains, looking through the bushes to watch them.
As we explore the new environments, the children have shown an interest with exploring with the dinosaurs. We are beginning to see some lovely imaginative play ideas as the children explore giving the dinosaurs food to eat and have acted out the dinosaurs stomping around the garden spaces.
In the Blossom Garden, the children have engaged with playing hide and seek as they take turns with staff to find their peers. The children helped each other to find their peers commenting “there you are” and “found you”.
Communication and Language
During our group times, we have begun to introduce activities to support recognising the names of our peers. The children have been engaging with turn taking as they pass the ball between their peers. Over the week, the children are beginning to name their peers while passing the ball. This has continued within their choosing as we hear the children using their peers’ names within explorations.
