The Discovery Hub and Investigation Hub:

This week we have continued welcoming new children into the Discovery Hub with short visits ready to start in the new term.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children have all took interest in the spring changes around us particularly the blossom on our blossom trees. So we decided to extend this further by looking at a range of different flowers and we used all of our senses to explore them. We used mortars to crush the petals up and we sprayed water on to them using spray bottles to create our own perfumes. The children were fully engaged throughout the activity and used some lovely language such as “petals feel soft” and “yellow daffodils”.

Some of our older children impressed us when they painted some beautiful flower pictures and one child even added on a ladybug 🐞 with others agreeing a ladybug would be a good addition.

As the weather is getting warmer water play has been a large interest so we decided to make our own car wash. The children helped make the car wash they all gave appropriate ideas of what we might need( cloths, soap and towels) and we made them extra dirty by adding paint to our cars beforehand.

Physical Development

The children have enjoyed games such as hopscotch in the outdoor environment. They displayed lovely gross motor skills as they jumped through the coloured hoops as they counted.

The children enjoyed the car wash so much we decided to extend that activity to the outdoor environment and they washed the trikes and push along cars outside.

The children have enjoyed collecting the blossom and leaves that has fallen on the floor and using it in the mud kitchen to make some lovely concoctions. They have been stirring and pouring them into different containers and serving them to the adults and their peers.

Parent partnerships

We reopen on Monday 20th April 2026 to all children.

We hope you have all enjoyed the Easter break and look forward to the new term.

As previously stated when your children come back to nursery can we please have an unopened suncream (factor 50).

Reminder can all parents bring their home loan folders back in ready for the new term. If your child is just starting nursery they will be given one and they can select a book from the basket in the coat area to enjoy at home. When they are finished with it they can bring it back and choose another book to enjoy.
