The Den:
With Spring fast approaching, we have started looking at Spring themes like chicks. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our spring chick props throughout the week. We talked about their sounds and used the Makaton chick sign as we spoke about them. This was a great opportunity to develop early counting skills as the children made an attempt to count “1 2 3” when we discussed the chicks at group time. We also spoke about the different couloirs, which prompted us to read the ‘colours book’ to the children. We linked this prop with the ‘where are the yellow chicks spot?’ book. The children enjoyed lifting the flaps to find the chicks in the book.
The children enjoyed exploring the sand this week, with the addition of different brushes and scoops. We added brushes that were different sizes and textures so the children could feel different materials. This was a great talking point to discuss words linked to the different textures like “hard” and “soft”. We also narrated their play, using language like “… is brushing,” and “stroke, scoop”.
We have had lots of children on transition visits this week. It has been lovely to see how well the children have settled across the rooms this week in their space.
