The Nest

This week, we continued with the sensory play theme. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring various resources and materials, engaging their senses in the process.

This week, our focused song has been “Old McDonald.” The children have participated in exploring a wide range of activities to further support their sensory exploration. We engaged in various farm themed activities to enhance their learning and enjoyment of the song.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children explored the coloured sensory mats, feeling their textures with their hands. They noticed the different mats had distinct textures as they switched between them.

Physical Development

The children were engaged in exploring rice with their hands. They picked up handfuls of rice and letting it fall from a height. The children were fascinated when they watched the rice fall back into the tray. There was some lovely interactions observed between the children with lots of smiling and babble sounds.

The children enjoyed exploring the farm animals in shredded wheat using their hands to explore the texture. They were scrunching the shredded wheat between their hands enjoying the sensation.

Communication and Language

The children enjoyed painting using their fingers as they moved the paint around the paper. They noticed paint on the bottom of the animals feet, pointing directly at it. The children moved the animal around the paper creating different marks.
