The Den:

We have been focusing on cars this week- exploring them in different ways using paint, water and magnetic tiles.

Physical development:

We created a tuff tray with magnetic road tiles and cars for the children to explore. We first demonstrated how to click the peices together to form a road. We modelled rolling the cars along the road, encouraging the children to vocalise language such as “brum brum” and “beep beep”. We also read a car book to the children which contained pop up pages that they had to use their fingers to move up/ down. The children sat engaged throughout the book and really enjoyed making the various pages move. This was a great opportunity to encourage patience and turn taking as they sat and listened.

To extend and scaffold learning, we planned some car themed activities like mark making with them. We placed cars into a tray and added paint so the children could look at the car marks left behind. We also encouraged them to use their fingers to make marks in the paint.

Finally, the children enjoyed washing the cars in warm soapy water using sponges. The children had lots of fun splashing in the ‘car wash’ and used great fine motor skills to grip and squeeze the sponge. This created lots of bubbles which the children enjoyed popping.

This week, our focused song was “driving in my car”. This song is always a favourite with the children as they enjoy the anticipation of “driving very fast!” The children moved their bodies side to side as we sang the song.

Parents as partners:

Next week, we will be looking at the song ‘incy wincy spider’. If you have any kitchen roll tubes at home can you bring them in to be used during this activity.

hope everyone has a fab weekend!
