Investigation and Discovery Hub:
Characteristics of effective learning:
This week, we have looked at The Hungry Caterpillar as we follow on from our interest or bugs and food. Some of our older children told us they would like to make puppets so we then combined our focus and the children’s interests into one where they then created puppets for The Hungry Caterpillar book. 🐛
In addition to this, our younger children have looked at a range of things including a teddy bear picnic, jigsaws and water play as this has followed their interests this week. 🐻 🧩 💦
Physical development:
Our older children have showed fantastic physical development skills as they independently created their own puppets by using a range of skills such as sticking, cutting , drawing and gluing!
For our younger children they have practiced their fine and gross motor skills by participating in a range of activities such as filling and emptying water, completing jigsaw puzzles and creating their own masterpieces through gluing and sticking.
Communication and language:
As well as The Hungry Caterpillar book, we have looked at We Are Going On A Bear Hunt as the children began to show interest in bears! The children enjoyed moving and making noises related too the book including “swishy swashy” for the long wavy grass and a howling sound for wind. Following on from this, our older children confidently talked about both books in regards to what foods the caterpillar ate , how does the caterpillar turn into the butterfly and why do we think everyone runs away from the bear.
