The Den/The Nest

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children have had a busy week exploring a variety of activities that have engaged the children in different ways, focusing on sand exploration and group time experiences.

Communication and Language

The children have really enjoyed group time, as they got really excited when the song box came out. The children were so engrossed in choosing, singing and carrying out the actions of their song. The children demonstrated good turn taking and waiting for their next turn.

The children enjoyed watching the bubbles in the garden blowing around in the wind. The children were using their fingers to pop the bubbles, some children would say “pop” and “bubble”.

Physical Development

The children have demonstrated good hand eye coordination and fine motor skills as they explored the sand with metal objects. The children sat for extended periods of time experimenting with the metal objects. The children spent a considerable amount of time exploring the sand, as they were engaged in what they were doing.

The children had lots of fun exploring the balance board demonstrating good balance as they used their whole body to move around the board. The children showed some lovely interactions, as there was lots of laughter and enjoyment.

Parent Partnership

Some of our older children have been doing their transition visits into the Discovery Hub. They have done really well in adjusting to their new environment and building bonds with their new key worker.
